Its name comes from the tile works, the tuileries, that stood on the site before. A century later, in 1664, André Le Nôtre, the gardener of Versailles, redrew it as a French formal garden, with its long central walk, its basins and its rows of trees. The palace burned in 1871; the garden remains, between the Louvre and the Place de la Concorde. ## A Jardin des Tuileries elopement, between the trees and the Louvre Picture the long lines of trees, a sculpture or a basin beside you, and the Louvre glowing at the end of the walk.
