## Meet your Paris wedding officiant

As your Paris elopement planners, we match you with an English-speaking wedding officiant who takes the time to understand your story and shapes the ceremony with you. It can be held in **English, French, German, Spanish or Arabic**, or in two languages when you and your guests do not all share the same one.

The result is a symbolic ceremony that sounds like the two of you and gives the day a real center: your story, your promises and the moment you choose each other in Paris.

![Collie and Gus with their officiant on the bank of the Seine, the Eiffel Tower behind](https://cdn.elopement.paris/assets/2025/10/06143521/20250418071933-DSC00985-834_a.jpg)

![Victoria and Tyler before their officiant in the Trocadéro gardens, flowers on the lawn and the Eiffel Tower behind](https://cdn.elopement.paris/assets/2026/10/15115405/victoria-tyler-paris-elopement-20260424084245-DSC08024-Edit-721_a.jpg)

You do not need to arrive with a finished ceremony or perfectly written vows. We begin by getting to know the two of you: how you met, what you value, the moments that shaped your relationship and how you want the ceremony to feel.

We work with a carefully selected team of Paris wedding officiants. We choose the right person for your date, preferred language and personalities, then guide the planning so the ceremony fits naturally into the rest of your elopement day.

Your celebrant prepares a personal ceremony from what you share. You will have space to exchange vows and rings, listen to your story together and be fully present with each other. On the day, your officiant leads the moment calmly so you are never left wondering what comes next.

For our service, **officiant** and **celebrant** mean the same thing: the person who prepares and leads your symbolic ceremony. Couples search for both words, but the role is simple. They help turn everything you want to say into a ceremony with a beginning, a rhythm and a meaningful ending.

[Tell us how you imagine your ceremony](https://elopement.paris/contact/)

## What is a symbolic wedding ceremony in Paris?

A symbolic wedding ceremony is meaningful and personal, but it is not the legal marriage itself. Many international couples complete the civil marriage in their home country, then come to Paris to exchange vows in the setting they have imagined.

This gives you freedom. Your ceremony can be beside the Seine, in a garden, on a private terrace or in another setting that suits the two of you. It can focus on your relationship rather than on paperwork or a standard civil script.

In France, the legally binding marriage takes place through a civil ceremony at a mairie, or town hall. Eligibility and document requirements depend on the couple’s circumstances. If a legally recognized French marriage matters to you, confirm the current requirements with the relevant mairie before making plans.

Our role is to plan and lead your **symbolic Paris ceremony**. You can complete the legal process at home before or after your trip, then treat the promises you make in Paris as the emotional heart of your celebration.

For a wider look at the ceremony, timeline, locations and logistics, read our [guide to eloping in Paris](https://elopement.paris/paris-elopement/).

## What your Paris elopement ceremony includes

![Michael and Aphrodite with the officiant during their Paris elopement ceremony](https://cdn.elopement.paris/assets/2026/10/08001651/aphrodite-michael-paris-elopement-20260406085821-DSC08898-834_a.jpg)

### A ceremony shaped from your story

Your officiant learns about your relationship before writing the ceremony. The questions are thoughtful for a reason: the way you met, the things you admire in each other and the life you are building give the ceremony its voice.

It should feel specific enough that your guests recognize you in it, and intimate enough that it still feels right when it is only the two of you.

![Nancy placing the wedding ring on Jason's finger](https://cdn.elopement.paris/assets/2026/10/07233647/nancy-jason-paris-elopement-20260430071244-DSC09951-721_a.jpg)

### English, French, German, Spanish or Arabic

Your ceremony can be held in English, French, German, Spanish or Arabic. We can also plan a bilingual ceremony, which can be especially helpful for a multicultural couple or when family members speak different languages.

Tell us who will be there and which parts everyone should understand. We will help you choose a language flow that feels natural without making the ceremony feel repetitive.

### Time for your vows and rings

The ceremony usually lasts about **15 to 20 minutes**. This leaves room for your story, personal words, vows and rings while keeping the moment intimate and comfortable in a Paris setting.

At the end, you receive a symbolic wedding certificate as a keepsake of the ceremony.

### A ceremony that welcomes every couple

We plan ceremonies for couples from different cultures, countries and family traditions, and for LGBTQ+ couples. We begin with who you are and what matters to you, then shape the ceremony around that.

## How we personalize your Paris wedding ceremony

1. ### 1. Tell us about the two of you

Before the elopement, we ask questions about your story, your relationship and the atmosphere you want. You can tell us whether you picture something emotional, lighthearted, romantic or quietly simple.

2. ### 2. We match you with an officiant

We select an officiant from our team according to your date, ceremony language and personalities. Because we also plan the rest of the elopement, the officiant is part of one coordinated day rather than a separate vendor you need to manage from abroad.

3. ### 3. We shape the ceremony together

Your answers become the foundation for the ceremony script. We help you think through your vows, rings and the way you want the moment to unfold, while keeping your personal words in your own voices.

4. ### 4. We plan the setting and timing

The view is only one part of choosing a ceremony location. We also consider your guest count, the season, how you will arrive, the distance to the next part of the day and what we will do if the weather changes.

Earlier hours are usually quieter at well-known public locations, although no public place can promise complete privacy. We plan the location, timing and backup around the conditions expected on your date.

5. ### 5. Your officiant leads the moment

On the day, your officiant guides you through the ceremony and the exchange of vows and rings. You can listen, speak and take in the moment without having to remember the order or direct anyone around you.

![Pink roses and two vow books tied with ribbon on the bank of the Seine](https://cdn.elopement.paris/assets/2025/10/06143432/20250418072807-DSC01119-834_a.jpg)

## Just the two of you, or your closest people

A Paris elopement can be only the two of you and your officiant. It can also include the small circle of people you cannot imagine the day without.

Tell us about your guests early in the planning. Even a few people affect the best location, transport and timing, and we want everyone to understand where to be without making the ceremony feel formal or overplanned.

One couple exchanged vows [beneath the cherry blossoms](https://elopement.paris/paris-elopement-inspiration/cherry-blossoms-spring-elopement-wedding-paris/) with their baby Paola beside them. Other couples have brought parents, siblings or their closest friends. The guest list can stay small while the moment still feels shared.

## Renew your wedding vows in Paris

If you are already married, your ceremony in Paris can become a vow renewal: a chance to speak to the relationship you have now and make new promises for the years ahead. You do not need to wait for a particular anniversary. Some couples mark five, ten or twenty-five years; others choose a moment when Paris simply feels right.

A Paris vow renewal is symbolic, so it does not change your legal marital status. That gives us room to make the ceremony personal. Your officiant can tell the story of the life you have built, then guide you through new vows and a ring exchange if you would like one. The celebration can be just the two of you, or your children and closest people can be there to witness it.

H\&F renewed their vows for their fifth wedding anniversary at the fountain of Saint-Sulpice. We helped them plan a new atmosphere for a relationship that already carried years of shared history, with flowers, photography and film around the ceremony.

## Public or private Paris elopement ceremony?

The setting changes how the ceremony feels, so this is one of the first choices we help you make.

![Collie and Gus exchanging vows on the cobbled bank of the Seine before the Eiffel Tower](https://cdn.elopement.paris/assets/2025/10/06143523/20250418071636-DSC00858-834_a.jpg)

### A public ceremony with Paris around you

A public location lets the river, gardens, streets and landmarks become part of the moment. You might exchange vows beside the Seine with the Eiffel Tower behind you, beneath the trees of the Tuileries or in another part of the city that feels like your version of Paris.

Public places remain open to everyone. People may pass nearby, access conditions can change and complete privacy cannot be guaranteed. We help you choose a setting that works for your date, timing and number of guests, then keep a practical backup ready.

Explore our [favorite Paris elopement ceremony locations](https://elopement.paris/best-paris-elopement-ceremony-locations/) if you are still deciding where the moment should happen.

![A bride and groom laughing before their guests on the flowered rooftop terrace of Hotel Marignan, the Eiffel Tower behind](https://cdn.elopement.paris/assets/2025/09/20133705/20250730181125-DSC04916-834_a.jpg)

### A private venue with more control

A private terrace, hotel salon or château gives you more control over access, seating, music and decoration. It can be a good choice when privacy matters most, when you are inviting guests or when you want a more developed ceremony setting.

Private venue hire and any additional styling sit outside the standard public-location ceremony and add to the budget. The venue may also set rules for timing, suppliers and music. Tell us what you want the experience to feel like before booking a space, and we will help you compare the possibilities.

## Real ceremonies led by our Paris wedding officiants

The best way to understand a symbolic ceremony is to see how differently it can belong to each couple.

### Claudelle & Peter: vows beneath the cherry blossoms

They became engaged beneath the cherry blossoms in Kyoto and chose the blossoms in Paris for their vows. Their ceremony was private, personal and centered on the adventurous life they were building together.

### Collie & Gus: promises beside the Seine

After years of building a life together, Collie and Gus exchanged vows on the banks of the Seine. Their officiant gave the moment structure while the river and Eiffel Tower placed the ceremony unmistakably in Paris.

## Paris elopement ceremonies on film

Photographs preserve the look of your ceremony. Film keeps something different: your voices, the words your officiant shares, the sound of your vows and the small movements between them.

## Your officiant is part of our Paris elopement packages

Our English-speaking wedding officiant is included in our Paris elopement packages and is not booked as a standalone service. This means the ceremony, location, photography and timeline are planned through one team and one conversation.

The package gives us a starting point. We then personalize the ceremony language, setting and flow around the two of you without asking you to assemble every local vendor on your own.

Explore our current [Paris elopement packages](https://elopement.paris/elopement-packages/), or tell us what you already know about your day. We will help you understand which starting point fits.

## Paris wedding officiant FAQs

![](https://cdn.elopement.paris/assets/2020/11/08222538/TTG07540-721_a.jpg)

Is our Paris elopement ceremony legally binding?

No. The ceremony led by our officiant is symbolic. In France, the legal marriage is a civil ceremony handled through a mairie, or town hall. Many of our international couples complete the legal marriage in their home country and exchange their personal vows in Paris.

![](https://cdn.elopement.paris/assets/2023/08/25134639/team-circle-618_a.jpg)

![](https://cdn.elopement.paris/assets/2020/11/08222538/TTG07540-721_a.jpg)

What is the difference between a wedding officiant and a celebrant?

For our symbolic ceremonies, the words describe the same role: the person who prepares and leads your ceremony. “Officiant” is more familiar to many North American couples, while “celebrant” is common in other English-speaking countries.

![](https://cdn.elopement.paris/assets/2023/08/25134639/team-circle-618_a.jpg)

![](https://cdn.elopement.paris/assets/2020/11/08222538/TTG07540-721_a.jpg)

Which languages can our Paris ceremony be held in?

We currently hold ceremonies in English, French, German, Spanish and Arabic. A ceremony can also use two languages when that helps both partners or their guests feel included.

![](https://cdn.elopement.paris/assets/2023/08/25134639/team-circle-618_a.jpg)

![](https://cdn.elopement.paris/assets/2020/11/08222538/TTG07540-721_a.jpg)

How is our symbolic ceremony personalized?

We ask about your relationship, the moments that shaped it and the feeling you want for the ceremony. Your officiant uses your answers to prepare a personal script, and we help you plan the vows, rings, timing and setting as part of the wider elopement day.

![](https://cdn.elopement.paris/assets/2023/08/25134639/team-circle-618_a.jpg)

![](https://cdn.elopement.paris/assets/2020/11/08222538/TTG07540-721_a.jpg)

How long does a Paris elopement ceremony last?

Usually about 15 to 20 minutes. That is enough time for your story, personal words, vows and rings while keeping the ceremony intimate and comfortable.

![](https://cdn.elopement.paris/assets/2023/08/25134639/team-circle-618_a.jpg)

![](https://cdn.elopement.paris/assets/2020/11/08222538/TTG07540-721_a.jpg)

Can family and friends attend?

Yes. Your ceremony can be only the two of you, or you can invite a small circle of family and friends. Tell us the guest count early so we can recommend a suitable location, transport plan and timeline.

![](https://cdn.elopement.paris/assets/2023/08/25134639/team-circle-618_a.jpg)

![](https://cdn.elopement.paris/assets/2020/11/08222538/TTG07540-721_a.jpg)

Can we choose a public location or a private venue?

Yes, subject to the current access rules and availability of the setting. Public locations bring the city into the ceremony but cannot guarantee privacy. A private venue gives you more control and adds venue hire and any additional styling to the budget.

![](https://cdn.elopement.paris/assets/2023/08/25134639/team-circle-618_a.jpg)

![](https://cdn.elopement.paris/assets/2020/11/08222538/TTG07540-721_a.jpg)

Is the Paris wedding officiant included in your packages?

Yes. A personal symbolic ceremony led by an English-speaking officiant is included in our Paris elopement packages. Our officiants are part of the complete planning service and are not booked separately.
