A little history of Île Saint-Louis

Île Saint-Louis was once two islands, the Île Notre-Dame and the Île aux Vaches, used for grazing cattle. In the 17th century, under Louis XIII, they were joined and built up with the elegant stone houses that still line its quays today.

The island is named after King Louis IX, Saint Louis. Linked to the Île de la Cité and to both banks by its bridges, it has kept the quiet of a village in the very centre of Paris.
