A little history of Saint-Sulpice

The church of Saint-Sulpice, begun in 1646, took more than a century to build and is one of the largest in Paris. Victor Hugo married Adèle Foucher there in 1822.

In front of it, the Fontaine Saint-Sulpice, built between 1843 and 1848 to designs by Louis Visconti, honours four great preachers of the 17th century. The square, with its trees and its fountain, is one of the calmest in the Left Bank.
